Recognizing the inefficiency of traditional manual data entry, we engineered PerioPad—a voice-controlled web application MVP—delivered in just 6 weeks to completely free clinicians’ hands during examinations.
Challenge
When documentation breaks the procedure
For dental hygienists and periodontists, every patient appointment is a race against time. Periodontal charting requires recording dozens of numerical measurements. Traditionally, clinicians faced a difficult choice: either hire a dedicated assistant to transcribe data (increasing operational costs) or constantly interrupt the procedure to type, breaking crucial sterile protocols. Furthermore, existing software on the market was either prohibitively expensive for small practices or bloated with complex features. The client needed a simple, affordable, and hygienic solution that practitioners would actually want to use in their daily workflow.
Solution
We built a lightweight, secure web application accessible from any desktop browser. Guided by our “secret weapon”—an in-house qualified dentist acting as Project Manager—we ensured flawless interpretation of medical logic and British charting systems.
Voice & AI Integration:
We tamed OpenAI models through intensive rapid testing cycles to accurately transcribe and parse specific dental voice commands (e.g., “four, three, four”) directly into structured chart fields via a “Push-to-Talk” interface.
Intelligent Auto-Calculations:
The application performs complex, on-the-fly calculations for bleeding percentage, periodontal stage, and grade based strictly on official British Society of Periodontology (BSP) guidelines.
Zero-Data Liability Architecture:
To guarantee absolute confidentiality and effortless GDPR compliance, we engineered the system so that all processing happens locally in the browser, storing zero patient data on the server.
Seamless Workflow Tools:
We implemented instant, single-click professional PDF report generation, allowing clinicians to easily attach results to major dental software like SOE, R4, or Dentally.
Results
The successful launch of PerioPad turned a visionary concept into a tangible, working product, successfully validating the viability of the client’s business idea for future investment.
